Department of Population Outreach

The Population Outreach Department (POD) of the Regional Survey for Seismic Protection conducts training on seismic protection principles for different segments of the population.

• Training, theoretical knowledge, and practical skills development on the topic of "Seismic Protection" in schools, kindergartens, and summer camps in Yerevan and the 10 regions of Armenia.
• Work aimed at raising awareness among teachers and educational staff on preparedness for strong earthquakes.
• Organization of evacuation drills, seminars, game quizzes, sports and mobile game quizzes on the topic of "Seismic Protection"
• Training courses on seismic risk reduction activities for local government employees.
• Awareness-raising activities on the topic of "Seismic Protection" for community residents.
• Organization of seminars and evacuation drills on seismic risk reduction in organizations and service-providing companies.
• Organization of educational visits to the Garni Geophysical Observatory of the Ministry of Internal Affairs "Regional Survey for Seismic Protection" SNCO, where since 1991 the IRIS/GNI seismic station, part of the global seismological network, has been installed. The purpose is to familiarize participants with seismic protection guidelines, seismic hazard assessment, seismic risk reduction, and the characteristics and modern capabilities of the national observatory network.
• Implementation of publications and broadcasts in the media to raise public awareness.
• For the social inclusion of individuals with special needs, teaching seismic protection guidelines in nursing homes, special schools, organizing evacuation drills, and providing methodological materials.
• Analysis and localization of global experience in the field of public education and social-psychological vulnerability.
• Creation of methodological materials in the field of seismic protection to raise awareness among different age groups of the population.
